Sylvia "Gbaby" Cohen is an artist with a vision: to inspire and encourage others through her one-of-a-kind pieces.
Sylvia has remained loyal to her artistic brand identity by painting beautiful, powerful images of women. She originally designed unique and popular handbags but has expanded recently her collection to the delight of her loyal fan base.
Gbaby began in the early 2000s when Sylvia's daughter Giovonnie Samuels, an actress on Nickelodeon's All That, was looking for a handbag to wear to an awards ceremony. However, they found that there were no handbags or t-shirts available that reflected images of beautiful black women—a clear gap in the fashion industry.
Sylvia's imagination led her to paint her first Gbaby handbag. It quickly gained popularity among the mothers and kids on set, so she started spending all of her time painting handbags and shirts for them. She had no idea that this would be the beginning of building the brand known as Gbaby today.
