Susie King Taylor is widely recognized for being the first African American nurse in the United States Army. However, she was also extroadinary in many other ways and accomplished much during her lifetime. Susie King Taylor was the first African-American to teach other African Americans openly in a school in the state of Georgia, she served as President of the Woman's Relief Corps and she was the only African American to publish memoirs from her wartime experiences.
