The frustration and disappointment of being denied this opportunity, along with its financial hardships and economic uncertainty as a result, are believed to have contributed to allegations of substance abuse, particularly alcohol abuse, that plagued his later years.

Despite these struggles, Josh Gibson's legacy endures as a testament to his unparalleled skill and the profound injustice of his exclusion from MLB.

The Homestead Grays were an African-American professional baseball team based in Homestead, Pennsylvania. They were a powerhouse in the Negro Leagues and one of the greatest teams in the league's history. The team produced some of the finest players in baseball history, including Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard, Ray Brown, Judy Johnson, and Vic Harris. From 1930 to 1950 the Grays dominated the Negro Leagues, winning multiple league titles and world series.
