Description

A work of art inspired by "Lyle Love".

"Lyle Love" is a term that symbolizes the enduring bond between George Lyle, a distinguished member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, a pioneering founder of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Their relationship, which began in the early 1900s, not only exemplifies personal commitment but also signifies the unity and collaborative spirit between these two historic organizations.

George Lyle and Ethel Hedgeman Lyle shared a vision for uplifting African American communities. "Lyle Love" has thus become a cherished term representing a legacy of partnership and the powerful impact of working together towards common goals. Their story continues to inspire new generations, reinforcing the values of brotherhood, sisterhood, and collective progress.

Ethel Hedgeman Lyle was a founder of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She had a distinguished 40-year career as an educator and was active in public life, serving as National Treasurer of the sorority for over 20 years. Lyle also founded the West Philadelphia chapter of the League of Women Voters and the Mothers Club. Her leadership and vision left a lasting legacy, inspiring generations of women to pursue academic excellence and community service.

George Lyle was an Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. member, initiated into the Beta chapter in 1907. His involvement in the fraternity was significant, as he was part of the early expansion efforts led by Jewel Eugene Kinckle Jones, one of the fraternity's founders. He worked as a teacher, emphasizing the importance of education for African Americans, and contributed to the fraternity's mission of leadership and service.
