These talented metalworkers casted this sculpture that depicts a female member of the Ndebele ethnic group of South Africa adorned in green garments and matching headwrap with neck rings. The Ndebele peoples are one of four distinct groups that make up the Nguni Tribes. "Dzilla" means "Neck Rings" in English. The Ndebele women historically would wear rings around their body including their neck after marriage to symbolize her bond and faithfulness to her husband. In times of antiquity, she would only remove the rings after his death. The husband would provide his wife with the rings. Thus the wealthier the husband, the more rings the wife would have and wear.
