Description

An African American historical poster that pays tribute to the life and legacy of the celebrated and famed scientist, inventor, environmentalist and Tuskegee Institute researcher/professor George Washington Carver.

He is remembered most for helping to save the economy of the south by advocating for crop rotation using peanuts, sweet potatoes and other legumes to restore the soil of nutrients during the offseason of Cotton and provide alternative cash crops. Carver also advocated for Black farmers and other southern farmers to become self-sufficient and grow their own food and use the land to create other necessities to minimize their personal debt.

Notable Achievements: In 1894 he became the first African American to graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree, his childhood home became the first National Monument in honor of an African American, Congress designated January 5th George Washington Carver Recognition Day, he was inducted posthumously into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, President Theodore Roosevelt consulted with him on agricultural matters, he was a member of the British Royal Society of the Arts, Mahatma Gandhi consulted with him on agricultural matters and some called him "the most famous Black Man in America" during his later life. These are just a select few of his many honors and achievements.

The poster features an image of an older George Washington Carver and a powerful quote about the power of compassion. It reads:

“How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these."

This work of art measures 17 inches x 11 inches (paper size) and 17 inches x 11 inches (image size). It is printed on high-quality glossy paper with a weight of 230 GSM.
