Description

A historical poster that pays tribute to the legacy of the Harlem Hellfighters. A feared group of African American soldiers that fought bravely in World War I. The French awarded them the Croix de Guerre for brave and bitter fighting and the Germans that they were fighting gave them the name "Hellfighters". Since the majority of the regiment were from Harlem they became known in history as the "Harlem Hellfighters".  The 369th Regiment Military Band is also credited with helping introduce Jazz in France.

The 369th Infantry Regiment were the first African American infantry unit to fight in World War I.  They were one of the most feared units in the Allied forces and famous for never ceding an inch of ground. The Germans nicknamed them the "Harlem Hellfighters".
